In August 2023, our world was turned upside down. My niece and goddaughter, Camille, was just 5 months old when doctors delivered the devastating diagnosis: leukemia. This happened just shy of a year after our good friends' daughter Alizée had also been diagnosed with cancer.
The news left me grappling with a profound sense of helplessness, and I decided to fight back in the only way I know how - by supporting those who are working to prevent childhood cancer in the first place.
While Camille's battle is ongoing, the sweetest Alizée did not make it. You can read more about Alizée's story here: https://team.kickcancer.org/nl/page/voor-alizee
Her loss is a reminder of why we must fight harder to ensure no family has to endure this pain.
In July 2025, I will attempt a solo swim across the English Channel. Through this swim, I aim to raise funds for KickCancer, an organisation dedicated to funding research and programs that give children with cancer a fighting chance.
My journey to the Channel is no small feat. Here's what lies ahead:
- Winter 2024: Open-water training without a wetsuit (yes, in freezing water!)
- 29-30 November 2024: A 24-hour swim marathon
- 16-19 May 2025: a 33,3 km UltraSwim in Croatia
- 31 May 2025: the 21 km Tabarca Ultra Oceanman
These challenges are stepping stones toward the ultimate goal: crossing the Channel.
This is where you come in.
Your support can help KickCancer fund lifechanging research and programs for children like Camille and Alizée. Every donation, big or small, makes a tangible difference in the fight against childhood cancer.

We have a mission. A beautiful mission. We want to cure every child with cancer.
Find new treatments, improve existing ones, and kick children’s cancer to send it far, far away forever and may it never come back!
We therefore financially support scientific research, and bring together the drive, inspiration and knowledge of everyone involved. From researchers, doctors and parents to politicians and pharmaceutical companies.
Only a joint effort can ensure that children with cancer are cured and better cured.
Your gift helps fund either a research project selected by KickCancer, in line with strict evaluation criteria, or our advocacy and awareness activities. Every new research project, policy milestone or patient empowerment initiative contributes to what truly matters: better treatments, more innovation and real hope for children, adolescents and young adults (AYA) with cancer.
Through FIGHT KIDS CANCER, a European initiative dedicated to paediatric oncology, we support innovative research projects. In Belgium, we work closely with the Belgian Society for Paediatric Haematology Oncology (BSPHO) to support the participation of Belgian paediatric oncology centres in international academic clinical trials.
Our advocacy and awareness activities are just as important. They aim to ensure that pharmaceutical companies are required or incentivised to invest more in research in paediatric cancer, that governments invest more in research infrastructure, and that other NGOs active in the cancer field play their part in advancing research in paediatric cancer.
